Peace of mind

Without mental health, it would be hard for us to realise our potentials, deal with stresses in life and make contributions to our family or society. HIV infection is linked to an increased chance of having mental health problems because the HIV virus may cause inflammation in the brain and adversely affect its functions such as regulation of mood, memory and executive functions. Besides, handling one or more chronic illnesses, drug use problems or sexuality may add multiple layers of stresses that one has to deal with. When the burden of these or other stressors exceed our mental capacity, mental health problems may occur. There are many ways you can help preventing these problems and if they have occurred, they could be resolved by a variety of self-help methods, psychological therapy, medications or a combination of them.
